About the Book:
What I love about advent is that it is a “clean slate” during Christmas time. No matter what Christmas was for us in the past, it seems like every year it has the opportunity, and the possibility, to be something completely different and brand new.
That’s what Jesus brought with Him as He was born into this world; He brought with Him a clean slate, a fresh start, and something brand new to our lives and to our faith.
Gone are the days of being consumed by what is going on around us, and falling victim to how the world works, and suffering from a hopeless sense of purpose in life. Now, because of Jesus, we have all these beautiful gifts that God gave to us through His Son Jesus.
Sometimes when we face a new opportunity we often worry about what could possibly go wrong; however, when we embrace the heart of the advent season we are able to see these new experiences of life that make these new opportunities the new beginnings we so desire in this life. Then, it becomes an opportunity that can be transformed by God in many good and perfect ways.
Throughout life we might become overwhelmed by the trauma we face and the failures we’ve had to endure. Weary is the only word to describe this feeling, and we often avoid approaching a new endeavor because it might fail, or we feel like the unknown is just not worth the risk anymore. But with a heart of anticipation for the coming of The Lord, we can look onto the deep, dark unknown and realize the possibilities are truly endless. Sometimes the unknown is the fresh start we’ve been waiting for in order to rewrite the story of our life that we’ve always wanted to write.
Relationships are difficult, and sometimes my heart is just too fearful and judgmental to have fun and enjoy the people in my life. We’ve been taught that people don’t change, and their character will always be defined by the mistakes they have made and the flaws that are revealed to us. Disappointment can plague our heart and mind to the point where we begin to believe that nothing will ever change or get better. But with God, we have the opportunity to see and believe the good in those around us. This “clean slate” we have through Jesus makes transformation a reality for us all.
Today I invite you to come and take this imperfect advent journey with me to discover the beauty of the good and perfect gifts God has given us through His Son Jesus. Let us journey together to discover what those gifts are, how we can receive those gifts, and most importantly the importance of giving those gifts away. I pray this advent devotional is a blessing to you, and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
